About the Department of Geography
As a constituent Department of the College, the history of the Department of Geography dates back to the establishment of the College in 2016 with the introduction of General Course. An Assistant Professor joined this department for the first time in 2024. Since then, the department has been successfully offering Geography as a Minor and a Multi-Disciplinary Course (MDC). This department aims to help learners grow in every way.
Vision of the Department
The Department of Geography at Kumarganj College, South Dinajpur, strives to combine natural and social science perspectives to address key issues concerning humanity and the environment. By providing academic guidance and creating research interest, the department equips students to master the discipline, advance to higher studies, and fulfill the dynamic needs of society.
Mission of the Department
- Integrate physical and human geography to give students a comprehensive understanding of human-environment interactions and global environmental challenges.
- Prepare students for higher education and professional success by offering strong academic guidance and mentorship along with practical training like GIS, remote sensing, and field studies.
- Encourage critical thinking and foster research interest among students through field studies, project work, and exposure to current geographical issues.
- Apply geographical knowledge to local and regional issues-particularly in South Dinajpur-empowering students to become responsible citizens who contribute positively to society.
